Did you know that as much as 20% of a household's water usage is in the kitchen? We have some quick and easy tips for saving water in the kitchen.
- Purchase a low flow kitchen faucet. Today's faucets have a flow rate of 1.5 GPM. Older faucets, 5 GPM.
- Use your dishwasher instead of hand washing dishes. Make certain you have your dishwasher full.
- Soak pot and pans. You'll use more water scrubbing under running water.
- Steam or roast your vegetables rather than boiling.
- Use washable spray mops and spot clean floors rather than mopping the entire floor.
- Save your running water. How many of us run tap water while waiting for our water to get hot or cold. Instead, fill a pitcher of drinking water for the fridge or keep a bucket for watering your plants.
- Fix leaks. Fifteen thousand drops of water can make a gallon. A leaky faucet can waste over 3000 gallons of water a year.
