The Holiday Season – Staying Safe
12/17/2020 (Permalink)
Did you know the top three days for home candle fires are Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve?
Keeping that in mind, your friends at SERVPRO of Jefferson City want to share some safety tips offered by the American Red Cross to help reduce the risk of fire in your home this holiday.
- Place Christmas trees, candles, and other holiday decorations at least three feet away from heat sources.
- Lights, strings, and other holiday decorations should be at least three feet away from heat sources.
- Unplug your Christmas tree lights and any other holiday lights before going to bed, and before leaving your house.
- Never use lit candles to decorate your tree. If you use candles elsewhere in your home, always extinguish them before leaving the room or before going to bed.
- In the kitchen, keep anything that can catch fire, potholders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels or curtains – away from your stove top.
- Create a designated person to make certain all candles are extinguished at the end of the day.
